O ur objective is develop a workflow management application on handheld devices to coordinate tasks from anywhere at anytime . The application will enable a project group to allocate the tasks among a group, set the task dependencies, update the tasks and monitor the work status at anytime. The system will allow the group members to communicate with each other thru a combination of email, voice, and text messaging. The system will also be able to interact with other web applications. The application will be developed on both PDA and PDA cum phone devices. These handheld devices act as thin clients which will communicate with a centrally located server through a TCP/IP call. The data required for this will be managed by IBM's DB2 Everyplace. The remote access could be through a wireless LAN or a wireless ISP connection. The application can be enhanced to have access from a Desktop or a Notebook as well. The application is being developed in our E-commerce lab and the primary testing is being done in the Biomedical Computing Center at the Arizona Research labs.
