Southwest RESAC Information System

Back to List

The Southwest Regional Earth Science Application Center (RESAC) consists of several teams

from universities and government agencies throughout the region. The focus of Southwest RESAC is monitoring the amount, timing, distribution, and fate of precipitation in the region. It will be supported by an information system that allows easy search and retrieval of the various products and data made available through the center. This project is a part of NASA initiative and is a collaborative, inter-disciplinary effort between the Department of MIS at University of Arizona, Regional Climate Center at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, University of California, Berkeley, and USGS.

The long-term goal of the information system is to support different user groups with or without background in remote sensing. Users will be able to access a wide variety of resources including data products, models, analyses, abstract of published papers, processed images, and subsets of data.

A user-friendly web interface will be provided to ensure easy access. An intelligent dialog will guide the users through the search process so that they will be able to find specific data products even without an exact idea of the needs at the beginning. A special focus is to assist users who have no expertise in remote sensing. This is the key to increasing the use of remote sensing for a wide variety of applications.
