T eam 'IMPRINT' was formed in Spring 2001 at the University of Arizona in their MIS 531b:
Introduction to Database Systems class under the supervision of Dr. Sudha Ram and Faiz C.Currim. As a requirement of the course, students must form a team to work with a local client organization in designing and implementing a web based database application, allowing the students to acquire hands-on-experience with a state-of-the-art database management system and web-based development tools as well as Java.

In order to meet this requirement, Team IMPRINT elected to assist the School of Family and Consumer Sciences ("SFCS") at the University of Arizona, meet its data management needs in two disparate areas: 1. Serving the needs of its alumni and its business partners in offering a searchable, online resume bank; and 2. Serving the Director, Dr. Soyeon Shim, in tracking monetary donors to the school and its affiliated programs. Team IMPRINT built a web-based prototype alumni tracking system using Oracle 8i, Java servlets and Macromedia Dreamweaver, prepared a complete written final project report, including the bases for design decisions, recommendations, future considerations and complete final project documentation items for SFCS.

Because SFCS had no existing manual or automated systems meeting these data management needs, Team IMPRINT worked closely with Dr. Shim and the SFCS staff to define their needs, to analyze their needs and to produce baseline documentation of the system, such as the context diagram, data flow diagram and entity relationship diagram. This approved documentation served as the basis for the conceptual design of the database application. Team IMPRINT collaborated to define the final logical design, which they converted into the physical design following methodology taught by Dr. Ram in class, and discussed in further detail in this report. The database, front-end and connective components were built and integrated into the prototype system, which Team IMPRINT populated with dummy data and tested extensively before delivering it to SFCS with the complete documentation of the system.

Team IMPRINT has produced a flexible, efficient and user-friendly prototype system that provides some of the client's primary stakeholders with much needed access to secure data, along with written recommendations on implementation of the system.
